Elancourt, 22 June 2017 – Airbus is currently performing interoperability examinations during the first European plugtest for Mission-Critical Push To Talk (MCPTT), organized by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute. This event is decisive for Airbus to further push forward a global standard for MCPTT over LTE. As the European leader for Professional Mobile Radio, Airbus is carrying out trials which concentrate on the compatibility between LTE applications and servers of other PMR vendors. The company’s aim is to ensure that its technology works perfectly with other mission-critical solutions. The plugtest is taking place at the ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France, and brings together various vendors of the PMR industry.
“This outstanding event will bring clarity to the future usage of the MCPTT standard for LTE voice communications and we are satisfied with the first tests”, says Eric Davalo, Head of Strategy, Solution Portfolio and Engineering of Secure Land Communications at Airbus. “The current demonstration is indicating that Airbus has become a frontrunner in shaping a global standard for mission-critical communication over LTE within the 3GPP initiative.” 3GPP is the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a global organisation that sets international telecommunications standards.
Airbus has initiated mission-critical LTE solutions and has been a leading partner in the evolving ecosystem for mission-critical LTE solutions by contributing to the definition of the current 3GPP releases. Having performed trials with partner companies before the plugtest, Airbus is now focusing on mature application-server interfaces and compliancy with 3GPP standards during the ETSI session. The ETSI plugtest is also stimulating international interest. As a result, the Institute has invited various observers to the event, from various institutions such as the UK Home Office, the Directorate for Emergency communication of Norway, Public Safety Communication Europe, the Tetra Critical Communications Association and the French Ministry of the Interior.
